By wrong I mean the instructions say to "sand with succesive grits to 400, then burnish with 0000 steel wool, followed by vigourous buffing with soft cotton rags", this is before applying the oil/wax. This is the way to apply the first coat of poly/oil, it doesn't make sense to apply the wax/oil this way after you have applied a few coats of poly/oil.

I've used the poly/oil and have been happy with it.
I wanted to try the Oil/Wax finish over the poly/oil, but the instructions on the oil/wax can are for the poly/oil finish and they are obviously wrong.
How do you apply the oil/wax finish?

What do you mean by wrong?

In my experience with the Maloof finish/wax i just used a rag to apply it, and wiped it dry, did this a few times with the finish (waiting for the coat to dry) then a few times with the wax doing the same thing. Think I had to sand a little bit between coats but it wasn't major. I'm fairly sure i just followed the instructions on the cans.
