In the middle of redoing the wiring in the shop and wondering what the amp draw is on the 20" Agazzani so that I can wire a dedicated circuit for that machine. Waiting to hear back from Eagle Tools, but thought I might hear back from SMC folks a little sooner.

Thanks in advance,
D

What is the horsepower rating on the motor?

Its an Italian 3HP, not sure of the make yet.

3 hp motors are typically rated 12-15 amps on 230 volts.

Yup, got that...difference being a 15 vs 20A receptacle, which is why I was hoping to hear from someone who actually had the saw.

Thanks anyways,

Wire it for 20A, with a 20A breaker and a 20A receptacle. That will give you a little headroom.

I would recommend wiring in a 20 amp circuit with a NEMA 6-20 outlet. That is because even if the saw comes with a NEMA 6-15 plug, it will still fit into the NEMA 6-20 outlet. (The 6-20 outlet accepts both 6-15 and 6-20 plugs).

Furthermore, a 3 hp motor would be near the limit of a 15 amp circuit for an efficient motor, and above the limit for a less efficient motor. With the 20-amp circuit, you will be fine with any of the motors.

Even if you decided to use the NEMA L6-xx twist lock receptacles and plugs, you are nevertheless permitted to use either the L6-15 or L6-20 on a 20-amp circuit.

Rick & Jamie: Thanks for the feedback.
Haven't heard from any Aggi owners yet, so I'll go ahead and wire the circuit as a 20A w/Nema 6-20 receptacle.
