Hi;

Several years ago I got about 100# of random width 1/2 cherry shorts that were sold cheap ($1 / SF) because they were mainly sapwood. This has kept me in material for dt drawer boxes, but I am running out. The former source doesn't return email queries.

Does anyone know a source for this kind of material? Hardwood, mainly straight grained, prefer 1/2 or 5/8, 4-6" wide by 20"+ I would think that lots of manufacturers would have this for the cost of hauling it away...

thanks

Dennis

Can't help you with that. I think 90% of my drawers are made with poplar. Plenty strong, inexpensive and relatively stable. Although, like you, I'll grab some short lengths of good hardwood that is laying around.

Where are you? My local source may not do you any good.

I mill my own from 8/4 poplar...resaw into three equal thickness strips after face jointing and then thickness to 1/2". Some hardwood dealers to stock 1/2" material, but it tends to be expensive per board foot as compared to milling it in the shop.
