Where can I get an outboard assembly for a Powermatic 4224? I have heard that it is actually bolted to the lathe rather than a freestanding tool rest? Has anyone had any luck with this?

Bought my 3520B from them about 11 months agoa and very happy with them and lathe.
Don't know about the bigger brother 4224.

Tom I just got my new Packard Woodworks catalog and they have one listed in there for the PM 3520 and 4224. You might check it out. Says it weighs 130 lbs.

Thanks for the replies. Is the outboard assembly the same one used for the PM 3520 or is it different? If they are different, is the one for the 4224 bolted to the lathe? Can the Oneway outboard system be used on the Powermatic?

Thanks for all your help

The outboard assemblies are different for the two lathes. I just got the one for the 3520B and it stands alone and can be used with any lathe. It really is sturdy. The reason I know that they make a different one for the larger lathe is that when I was looking at a schematic drawing of one, I was totally confused until I realized that it was for the 44xx one. Good luck, Hilel.

Tom,

I bought the bed extention for my PM3520B. It can be bolted up to extend the bed or it can be bolted lower to the leg assembly and it allows you to turn up to 30" IIRC. It came with a riser that raises the normal tool rest up to the proper height.

The ourtboard turning assembly for the Powermatic 4224 is described here at Osolnik's web site: http://www.osolnikmachinery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=101

So the outboard assembly only allows you to turn 24" diameter work. The only advantage is that it creates a shortbed lathe on the outboard side. Does anyone know if a Oneway outboard assembly will work on the powermatic (will the mounting screws line up,...)?
