OK....frustration is setting in. I can't find it!! Somebody tell me, please...other than a place like Woodcraft, where can I find food-grade mineral oil?

Thanks!

Keith,

I've always bought mineral oil at my local drug store....... Best. Dave.

Any pharmacy should have "food grade" mineral oil. It is usually found in the laxative section.

My local Tru-Value hardware store sells it, but I usually get Butcher Block Oil from Rockler. $6.99 for a pint.

Why "food grade"? Not necessary. Go to the laxative isle in the pharmacy or supermarket and pick up some mineral oil there. It's obviously safe to drink... ;)

Now just make sure that you don't apply it to wood that is poisonous.

Hi Keith
We use large quantities of 100% pure mineral oil for drying our turned bowls and for our horses. Call your local large animal veterinary practice and purchase your mineral from them. Last time we purchased it was about $6 dollars per gallon. It is used for colicing horses and also work great in a turkey fryer for drying green bowls. Hope this helps.

Yes, it certainly is.

But not all mineral oils are the same. There are a few different viscosities available and many of the mineral oils sold in drug stores contain other ingredients, scents, perfumes, etc. I like the Rockler product because it is the correct viscosity for oiling cutting boards, salad bowls, wood utensils, etc. It is pure mineral oil with no other additives and it is labeled as food safe.

Plus it comes in a really neat squeeze bottle for easy application. :D

It is all in the packaging. Alot of that stuff is made in the same place and then put into containers with their name on it. If you really use alot of it, buy in bulk. If not, just support your favorite retailer.:)
