Hello,
I have a small gloat (Ha! I know, no photo and it doesn’t count.) and a couple of questions.
A friend, who was moving and had no place to use it anymore, gave me his Ryobi 10 inch bench top (Model DP 101) drill press. Since it had been sitting in a damp garage for a few months, it had some light surface rust on the column, so I used some 0000 steel wool to remove most of it. So, one question is, is there anything better than that to remove the surface rust? And what, if anything, should I apply to the column to inhibit rust in the future?
And since he had no manual with the drill press, I’d like to get one. I know that there isn’t much to using a drill press, but I’d still like to have a manual for it. Do you think that I could get one from Ryobi, or is there an online site where I could download one?
Thanks,
Louis

I'd use a little mineral spirits with your steel wool until smooth. Johnson's paste wax to protect. Manual should be availble at Ryobi's web site under 'support'.

Hope these 2 links help, and good luck with your saw

Actually, a razor blade scraper does good to get the worst rust off.

After that, I use scuff pads and the rust free product as sold by Sears (and others).

Hello,
Run to a gun store and see if they carry a product called Clenzoil.
Use it with 0000 steel wool to remove the rust, then wipe on a light coat to prevent the rust from coming back.

Breakfree CLP also works very well as a substitute for the Clenzoil.

Ryobi should have the manual on their website. They also have a pretty fair online forum too.
