Ron looks mighty fine to me. I did several like those but put a marble insert in the middle to cut the cheese on. Well done.

Very nice. I like. Get's me interested in doing some turning, and I just might have a little walnut and poplar to cut into.

Alex, I was impressed by Curt Fuller's write up on platters being turned from 3/4 inch stock so I went to Lowe's and I purchased a 1X12" by 10' piece of popular off the shelf. Being a new turner and not wanting to mess up a good piece of wood for a first try on a new project. I bought this cheap popular before using expensive woods. So as an answer to your question The popular came from Lowe's . Popular is normally fairly plain however this piece stood out from all the other pieces with all the grain. The LOML love's wood grain so she snatched this one as soon as I put the oil on it test piece or not. :o

Ed, just finishing up a sewing thread caddy and a pedestal cake platter for the LOML using more of the same wood with three coats of Min wax antique finish and carnuba wax. The gloss finish makes it eaiser on the eye.
