I have a steel mold that I use to bend wood. The steel is raw. not stainless or anything fancy. If you look at it while holding a glass of water it rusts. What is the best way to prevent this? Rustoleum Rust Inhibitor (sold to spray on outdoor tools such as steel shovels) or a clear gloss enamel spray paint? I am concerned about durability and any finish chipping off and transferring to my wood. Help.

You didn't say how you're doing the bending, but if you're going to hit the mold with steamed wood on a regular basis, I think you're going to need something tougher than wax. For quick and durable, I'd go with a self-priming industrial paint in a spray can. I like Benjamin Moore Iron Clad. Like any paint of this type, it will take a week or two after it dries to achieve maximum durability.
