I've been turning burl covered jars every time I get the chance.
This one has a burl body and a clear maple rim and lid. Every
burl is a new experience I never know what colors will pop when
I get into the piece. This one is pretty special.

GREAT PIECE, ONE MAIN REASON I TURN FOR ME IS TO FIND THE BEAUTY THAT THE CREATOR HAS HIDDEN INSIDE A BLOCK OF WOOD:p .

Thanks Guys,
I'm glad the jar went over well. The jar is around ten inches tall
and 3.5 inches wide. It's finished with shellac and Renaissance
wax then hand buffed during the Packers game. Phil

That's real pretty. Do you hollow it all the way to the bottom? Do you need a hollowing rig to do that?

Rich,
I hollow the body down to where I think the bottom should be after
removing the tenon. I use a OneWay Termite tool to do most of the
wood removal. Then I use a small round nosed scraper to clean-up.
I don't own a hollowing rig although I do own John Jordans hollowing
tools and that seems to be plenty for me. Phil

Phil,

Very nice job.

Can you show us a pic with the lid off?

I like the form.

Love the jar portion, not really in love with the lid. I think something a little more refined, and more contrasting color of wood. The top just does not jive well, IMHO. Please take this as constructive, both portions ar well done, just not a matching pair to me.
