I have a chance to get a nearly new 12" RBI planer. It has a 3hp, 220v Baldor motor. That's great. But what about the machine overall?

I'm not too excited about the 12" capacity. My long range plans were for a 15" planer --- possibly even a combo J/P like the MiniMax. First time I've heard of RBI. Looks pretty industrial. i don't even know who sells the product when new.

If I remember correctly, RBI made equipment for Belsaw.

I don't know why you don't want a 12 inch planer, a lot of combination machines are 12 inch.........Rod.

I have a 8" RBI planer which is at least 25years old, zero problems. Mine has a Leeson motor. They also make the Hawk scrollsaw. They will custom grind knives for you,the machine has molding feature, and you can also use as a drum sander. I wish I had sprung for the larger model but was just starting out and funds were limited. They are located I believe in Missouri and as far as I know still produce made in USA products. They do have a web site.
