Here are the first lided boxes I've done. They took me a lot of time but they were fun to make and a good learning experience. I hope I can make quite a few more some to keep and some as give away for X-Mas
Thanks for looking and commenting
First is Afzelia X-Lay Evony and Box Elder for the little ball at the top.

Great work Alex. I find miniatures harder to do than full-size.......Ron

Those are some good looking tiny boxes! Care to tell about your tools and how you do them this size? Regardless - great work!

Beautiful work Alex! If it wasn't for the quarter showing the scale I would have thought they were a lot larger than they actually are. Nice job keeping everything symetrical. I have to believe these would make wonderful Christmas gifts! Again, nice work!

Great detail for the scale. That's probably an excellent way to develop control.

Thank you all for your knid words. I hope I can start turning something larger after I grauate from the miniatures. So far this is my first attempt at holowing and it being fun.

I secured the block (about 2"x2" by 4") on a scroll chuck and turn the outside. Then cut the top and holow the inside. I used a jum chuck to turn the lid and the base. The finish is CA/BLO.
The tools used were a 5/8" & 3/8" spindle for the outside and inside was holwed with some mini turning tools (those $40 set of 5 tools) and then a 3/8" round scraper to smooth the inside along with an allen wrench next to the opening.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you like more detail on the making of them.

The secret is having a 5" round quarter. It makes things easier.

Thanks again for the nice comments.
