A friend has the box off an old Ice Cream Truck. Its about 24ft x 10ft x 7 or 8ft
tall. Because these are super-insulated, maintaining temperatures below -30 deg.,,
I thought it might make an excellant place to air dry wood, because temp and
humidity could be controlled cheaply with small heaters/ fan etc. Is this a sound
idea or comes under the Hairbrained catagory ?

wouldn't use a heater or anything like that==a dehumidifier for sure. Or convert it into a solar kiln.

Good idea-hadn't thought of solar. This things been setting for a few
years. When I looked at it in August, it was very cool inside. Also, with
a few plugs I might be able to pull a partial vaccum on the thing---

I have a friend here in the San Angelo area who did and does just what you are considering. It works for him day in and day out.

He uses a LP gas heater and a fan -- did not pay attention to the thermostat -- his name is Charlie Roberts -- his phone is out of the Miles, TX directory. I bet he's love to talk to you about it. Call just after dark. He's outside nearly all daylight hours.
