Hi all, I am returning to woodworking after many years. I had forgotten the passion I had for dovetails and chisels and wood planes etc. It is returning rapidly. Anyway, after perusing the posts here I can't find much on hand grinders, I used mine all the time. Doesn't anyone use them any more? I am having to relearn a whole lot of technique and this forum is a big help. Thank goodness for the internet!

Thanks, Ray

Well I have not used one yet but I am trying to get one right now and I plan on using one.

I think some still use them we just don't hear much about it.

I keep one in my 1850's period shop trailer, a friend gave me his collection of 100+ and I donated them to the historical museum, I kept the best one of the duplicates for myself.

... I've got visions of someone putting his hand into a thicknesser

I didn't realize how old I am getting. OK, for the description, we have this guy wrapped in animal furs holding a well worn stick with a large rock on the end. It is all I could afford at the time. I take it that there are newer methods now.
