What are folks using for a pump with their vacuum chucks? Do you this same pump for vacuum clamping, forming and veneering? New pumps are very expensive, other than occasional bargains is a good source for a reasonably priced pump or is it just better to get a good one and move on?
Thoughts and advice appreciated.

Gast 0523 for me...bought it "brand new" as surplus for much, much less than a retail new one costs. And yes, I use it for both my vacuum chucks and for vacuum veneer work.

This link is for a new gast pump at the cheapest price you will find. Works well for vacuum chucking, never tried it for veneering.

Thx guys - that is a great price for what looks like a solid pump. Was a little surprise it was 220 volts but looks great and will likely be in the shop soon!

Now that I gotten great advice on vacuum pump selection, what are folks thoughts on vacuum chucks? I am looking at the VacuuMaster chuck since my lathe spindle has a cross hole it.
Thoughts and advice appreciated.
Cheers - Bill
