I though of this idea of a totally adjustable tapering sled. Very easy to make and doesn't take much time at all. The pics show just about everything you need to know about it including T-bolts and T-slots for the adjustability part. It runs in the miter slot just like a sled. I've thought about the lazy idea of 3 or so toggle clamps for different thicknesses of wood. This wood save time adjusting a single toggle clamp. When tapering 4 sides of a leg I just use the wedge that is cut off the leg to hold it square in the sled.

Nice idea/work Darrin. I've been doing tapers on the jointer for years...but this is a very cool idea.

Great sled, looks like I will be buying some "t" track and hardware when I go to town.

why is the throat plate not in the saw table?

It is! It's the original black plate that came with the SawStop.

Why is it that some of the best ideas are so simple (and I can never think of them)? Great idea.

my apologies for jumping the gun. I thought I was seeing down inside your machine when I first looked. I am a nut about doing things safely and I go bullistic when I see (or think I see) people advertising short cuts that get people hurt.
Nice sled by the way.

Nice idea Darin. I printed the pictures and your project is going on my GIANT "things to do" bulletin board.

Thanks for posting this.

I like the design better than any one I've seen. Nice job.

I know this is a old bump but how do you cut the miter T slots?

Paul, router bits are made to cut T-slots. They come in sizes. Most common size bolts used are 1/4" and 5/16". Maybe someone will speak up if there are others. It is recommended to use a straight bit then the T-slot bit. That takes some of the stress off the T-slot bit which has a 1/4" shaft.

They come in 1/2 inch shank too! (http://www.holbren.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1) (which Id recommend).
Dont forget your Holbren discount code! (SMC10 I think)

As was stated you can get the T slot cutters at many different places.

These are some really good ones but you can find them cheaper.

You can also use T track, when I made a tapering jig that is what I used.
