I need to drill about a 2" hole in a 1-1/4" 6061 aluminum plate, will a bi-metal hole saw work? If so, any ideas as to speed, oil, etc...
Thanks - John

John, I've drilled through aluminum and thin soft steel using a bi-metal hole saw (I have a whole collection of them). Slow speed and some lubricating oil helps.
Be well,

You probably know this, but aluminum can grab a drill bit or hole saw. With a 2" hole saw, the drill will have plenty of leverage to fling you around. Brace yourself well, or use a drill press and clamp the aluminum well to the table.

Thanks guys, I'll use a drill press on slow speed and clamp everthing up.

John,
Denatured alcohol makes a great coolant for drilling aluminum.
