Julie,
You can find lots of walnut slabs at Bershire Products.
http://www.berkshireproducts.com/index.htm

Also, try locating sources closer to home with Wood Finder.

Happy hunting,
Phil

Wasn't somebody advertising walnut slabs in Classifieds awhile back?

There it is...

Julie,

You could try http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/

or http://www.talaricohardwoods.com/, both are in PA.

Both have incredible stashes of big wood. I think Jim Becker posted some pics of his purchases from Talarico.

Good luck!

Second endorsement for Hearne Hardwoods. Last time I was there there were some Amish guys driving away with a flatbed LOADED to the the maximum capacity with walnut slabs. Nice lookig stuff.

Other places to check would include Groff & Groff, and Good Hope Hardwoods. All in the same neck of the woods with Hearn--Lancaster County. You might also check Irion Lumber, in New York state, south of Corning. You would have to pick up small orders, but they may have extraordinary planks.

I was going to mention Hearne and Talarico.
I know Hearne mills some wood for Mira Nakashima.

I see a slab in the photo. May be worth checking out if the price is right.

Uh yeah I'd say it is worth checking out if you are close by.

Yes, Mira buys some stock from Hearne. She also sources from a guy just north of Doylestown who specializes in slabs, but I don't have contact information for him. When I stopped by there to check it out awhile back, there were HUGE 6" thick slabs air-drying in the parking lot...as well as a lot of "candy" inside.

Jim - i'd love the contact info if you have it - for the place in doylestown.

i don't have time to travel to pick anything up now - i 'll most likely have it shipped...

talking to berkshire about a piece, hopefully the client will like!

It sounds like Dan Hudock's sawmill is the supplier for you. I was there Sunday and I saw what you are looking for. You don't have to drive from Pittsburg, since they also do internet sales. Directions and contact info as well as some photos can be found on Dan's website... http://www.hudockshardwoods.com/ (http://www.hudockshardwoods.com/)

This guy is really close to me and I have gotten some stuff from him. His sthick is that he buys shorta and offcuts from local cabinet shops and such. He started off small and has really ramped it up as there has been demand - he posts stuff on almost a daily basis on CL. It is hit or miss. His stuff is not $1.00 but is still very cheap.
