I replaced the poly-V-belt on my Rikon midi and found that the new belt squeals and squeaks when running. Hence, I think I need to realign the headstock pulley with the drive pulley. How's the best way to go about this?

My thought is to loosen the set screw and allow the belt to run the upper pulley into alignment with the bottom one. Would that work????

(On the belief that confession is good for the soul....here's why I needed to replace the belt. I was boring an acrylic blank for a perfume pen and my 5/16" brad-point bit got captured, probably due to heat build-up. The chuck holding the blank came to an abrupt stop! And...in trying to remove the bit, I allowed the belt slip on the drive pulley. The result...a belt with a rather nasty divot on the inside surface...along with a ruined blank and a bent bit. Hey, it's only $$, right? Or...as the Pa Dutch would say, "Too soon old, too late schmart.)

Use a straight edge from pulley to pulley.
