I'm just getting back in the shop. I've made drawers in the past using both 3/4' & 1/2" stock. I have to make a drawer, about 8" high for my tool cart. I'm thinking of using 1/2" baltic birch ply that I have rather than buying more hardwood and resawing it. I'm going to use drawerlock joints. Will this be strong enough. Thanks for any comments.

For tools? maybe ... i'd feel better with finger joints in 1/2" ... or 3/4" stock. It'll probably work, but I'd err on the side of caution myself.

stan, you could also pocket screw the fronts to the sides if that would make you feel any more secure. the pocket screws would also take less time to set up and assemble.

That is exactly how I make most of my drawers. Never had a failure.

Thanks for all the responses. Never had any problems with baltic birch but just wanted to be sure. Happy wwing.
