What is the best method that folks have found for shipping the pens?

I did some internet surfing last week and found a company that makes thinwall clear plastic tubes and plastic plug caps.

It's called Mocap, Inc., Cleartec packaging and is located at 13100 Manchester Rd., St. Louis, MO, 63131

phone # is 314-543-4150 or 800-817-8967

One of the sales reps, Rondal A. Carson, sent me quote # 8280 with the following figures:

3/4" thin wall - 6" tube $ 0.0635 each if we bought 5000

3/4 end plugs (2 needed per tube) $ 0.0146 each if we bought 5000

That calculates to less than 10 cents per package per pen. They sent me a couple of samples and they work fantastic!!!

I posted a photo showing a slimline and a cigar pen packaged in the tubes. They are perfect for the pen and any notes that we want to slip in as well and will keep everything together very well. Plus, the tubes are clear so that if inspection is required, it will be easy.

I don't know how much different the prices would be for smaller quantities.

Anybody live in St. Louis that could go by and sweet talk these folks to see if they would like to become a "sponsor"? Heck, a donation of 5000 of these wouldn't even amount to one of the Executives monthly cell phone bill!!

Anybody interested in going in on a together buy?

Thanks!

Jerry

That looks like it might be just the ticket! Easy to see the contents, and enough protection to pile them into a box for mass shipping. And the price is certainly right. Maybe some of the donated funds could go to buying some of the tubes

I woudl be in need of 100 of them. that how many pens I am making. and folding them in envelopes would cost almost as much and require much more time. if this is not limited to freedom pens only. I would take 200 of them.

I don't know why it would have to be limited to Freedom Pens. This is a standard quote that his company gave me. The rep told me on the phone that to get donations or special pricing for the project, I would need to talk to the company president in St. Louis.

Anybody here live in St. Louis and wanna go by and meet him?

Let me get over the Ebay ad and I can handle the bulk order for the tubes if there is enough interest.

Just remember, there will be a little shipping added onto the cost after I break the initial order down and have to re-ship. No profit added on . . . just my cost.

I'm in for 200 . . . you're in for 200 . . . almost 10% of the way there for 5000.

Anybody else? Email me at jds@htcomp.net and give me a figure. If it looks like it will work I'll go ahead and place the order. The figures he quoted me will be just a tad under ten cents per tupe with two caps (.0927 cents) plus shipping. I'll divide the bulk shipping cost to me among the 5000 tubes and then add the separate shipping to you the cheapest way I can find or by your preference (within reason, of course . . . I don't want to go have to find a pony express!)

Thanks!

Well I'll try this again. Julie I think the term is I'll stand. Like I said my bother is the casio mgr. not me. In fact I'm not much of a gambler at all. I like the shows myself. I glad to see the participation and hope some raises 1800 more LOL or at least 18 people raise a 100 each or 9 people 200 each you get the idea:p

Jerry I'll take 100. Hopefully I can take more later. By the way I got the corian in earlier this week and turned my first pen yesterday with it. Came out great I think. I'll try to post a picture later.

Hi Gang!

We now have commitments for 1600 pen tubes which puts us almost a third of the way to the 5000 needed for the order.

I'm happy with that considering this thread is only a day old but keep the messages coming. You are welcome to use the tubes any way you see fit . . . they are not restricted to Freedom Pens.

Put drill bits in them . . .
Keep spare jelly beans in them . . .
Store your pen mills in them . . .
Individually store your brass pen tubes in them . . .
Use them to keep chewed gum moist until you are ready to re-chew . . .
Keep one with you as a portable rain gauge . . .
THE POSSIBILITIES ARE LIMITLESS!!

Thanks to all of you. As soon as the commitments get close to the 5000 I'll make the order and then get with you all about shipping costs and addresses.

Thanks!

Jerry

Hi Waymon,

Bear with me . . . for some reason, ever since I came to this forum when I sign on, I don't get all of the new posts! I sometimes have to log off and then back on several times before it will pick them up.

I noticed the talk above about raising each other and "standing" and was clueless about what was going on.

Then i logged off and on again and there are a bunch of messages I have never seen before!!! I have my Mac set to receive all cookies so I don't know what the problem is!

Anyway, here's where I think we are:

Me: 200
Daniel Yourdon 200
Rob Littleton 200
Chris Johnson 200
Scott Greaves 200
Roger Fitzsimonds 200 (and maybe an additional 200 to reach the target)
Paul LaJoie 100
Bill Turpin 100
Alan Shaw 200
John Miliunas 100
Ken Salisbury 300
Ted Calver 200
Jim Schmoll 1000
Dennis Peacock 100

Total now 3300 or 3500 depending on Roger

Outstanding! Now if I can just get my computer to work right!

Jerry - Place the order!!! I'll take the remaining 1500-1700 hundred. Hopefully you can get the order placed and the tubes shipped so that I can get them before the 20th. I plan on taking 500 to the Gulf Coast Woodturners Association meeting on the 21st., along with the 500 pen blanks that Todd Burch is donating.

Lets Roll...

OK, now I just found some more messages . . .

to the above add:

Robert Lee (from an email I got) . . . 200
Julie Wright . . . 200
Bill Chapman . . . 500

Bringing it to . . . . . (Drumroll) . . . ta da

4200 or 4400 depending on Roger . .

But wait . . . there's more!!

Waymon will fill out the rest of either 600 or 800 . . . depending on Roger!

OK folks . . . I'll call tomorrow and get it ordered. I checked the catalogue they sent me and it said that delivey will be 3-4 weeks from receipt of order.

BUT . . . that is with the pieces cut to 6" lengths. The 4' length tubing is in stock. It may even be cheaper for me to go ahead and have them deliver the 4' stock and I'll cut it. That way it should also be faster.

I'll talk to them tomorrow and let you know.

have a good evening and thanks!!!!

Thanks, Larry!

I'll put you on the list. The tubes are ordered and I was told that the shipping date will be around the 20th.

If my figures are correct, we are right at being committed for all 6500 tubes. Like with the CA order, if you want some, keep letting me know and if there is enough for another order, I'll take care of it.

Thanks!

Hi Harry!

I can't promise that you'll get them in this order. We are committed for the entire 6500 but they may send up to 10% more in the order.

From here on out, gang, you'll have to go on a "wait and see" list.

Thanks!
