Hi everyone. I have spent the last month trying to take care of some of the problem areas in my shop.

My biggest problem was finishing space. I used to have to spray in the area that my saw occupies. Which would mean covering all the tools and garage door with plastic, which rendered my shop useless until I was finished spraying.

The solution was to take over an outdated bedroom 15' x 20' that was in the back of the basement. Initially I was going to leave the room 15'x20', but come up with the idea of making a tool room, a central place for all the power tools and fasteners, to keep them organized and free of dust Since this space will serve as an assembly, and spray room, this situation has worked out well so far. So now I have a 5 x 15 tool room and a 15 x 15 spray/assembly room.

Two Construction dumpster later, this is what I ended up with. There is still alot of work left to get everything the way I want it, but this will have to do until I get caught up again.

My shop used to end were the new floor paint begins. I tried to make the room as bright as possible. I used T-11 Siding painted Bright White Semi Gloss and 5 8' High Output Fluorescent lights.

I hung 1/2" black pipe around the new area, with cheap shower curtains attached to them I can close the room off quickly. I only spray waterbased, I would not recommend this setup for solvent finishes

I ordered this exhaust fan, and built the cabinet around it. The fan does better than expected, after spraying about a gallon of clear there was no dust in the air.

This is the new finishing cart. It will take the place of the old mdf cart. I still have to build all the drawers and install casters. It will hold the turbine, pressure pot and scales.

This is the new plywood storage. It is hinged on the right side to allow the sheets to clear the edge of the saw.

My last problem was getting the sheet stock on top of the saw. I already had the outrigger cart from Felder ( this is for easy removal of the outrigger on the saw) So I built a pivoting platform to go on top of the cart.

This is the basic outrigger cart.

It needed the springs because of the off center pivot. It also makes tilting the panel up very easy.. The bottom lip is 1/8" x 1 1/2" aluminum angle. I built the bottom of the cart 1/2" lower than the plywood storage.

Impressive improvements to your shop. That cart is great. I've never seen one with springs. It would make a great project article for one of the ww mags.

Hi Frank, thanks for the complements. When I get everything hooked up, the pressure pot will be for the Fuji. The turbine will still supply the air, and the pot will supply the finish. I bought the 2 1/2 gal. pot so I can place 1 gal. containers of finish inside. It makes clean up alot easier.

VERY nice job with the reconfiguration, Jay. I love the storage system for the Systainers as well as the sheet-goods lifting setup. (I could really use something like the latter for sure!)
