I can't say about this model, but its predecessor, the M12V, is an excellent choice for router table use. It is too big to use freehand. If I needed a table router, I would buy at this price in a minute.

Thanks Chris and Art! I was just about to get a 3 1/4 hp router for table use but was not looking forward to spending $300+. This made my day. Total was $132! That only slightly more than I paid for the POS -1HP skil router.:D :D :D :D :D

Just today I purchased a Porter Cable 893 kit for my router table. I also just ordered the Hitachi from Amazon. Now what to do with the 893 kit?? I guess I could return it but I like the idea of the extra hp for a hand held router and the better dust collection than the 690 I am currently using.

I purchased this Hitachi router the last time Amazon had it on sale. Very quiet and smooth, and seems I can handle more easily as the PC 893 I just returned to the store (which seemed like it was running on sleeve bearings or loose ball bearings :( ) which probably weighed less. Hope the plastic on the Hitachi is lexan, because that would be the only saving grace for such an ugly tool.

I have several Hitachi power tools and like them all quite well, but why does Hitachi make them so ugly? They look like basketball shoes.
