My grandmother always said " If you don't ask, you will never know." So here it goes, how do you use a dial indicator to check for run out on a drill press? Thanks in advance.

Somehow mount the indicator to the DP table with the "pointer" zeroed out against the smooth part of a drill bit and then spin the chuck by hand.

Sometimes it is hard to get the shank to stick out far enough to get the indicator on. Some kind of ground stock is the alterative.

Mark Dugenskie's video "Mastering Woodworking Machines" shows how to do this with dial indicator, or feeler gauge.

A round shank screwdriver will also work but you should re-chuck a couple times in case it isn't perfectly straight.

No screwdriver...You need something perfectly round so the indicator picks up on the chuck. If the object in the chuck is not round the indicator will just show the out of roundness. Hope this makes sense.
