I have been thinking about getting one of these... anyone ever use one?

How big or small a piece can you turn with it?

Thanks in advance, ad

Hi Adam,
I have the Holdfast vacuum chuck and it does work.
It comes with everything you need to get started.
I will generate enough vacuum to damage a thin piece so I added a bleeder valve. I have seen several post on the web with satisfied owners.

If I had it to do again, I would just find a surplus gast pump and make my own set up. The Holdfast does not use a lot of air, but you do have to deal with the air compressor cycling. The vacuum is good but the air volume is lower than with a vacuum pump, so a porous material may not hold as well. I use mine to reverse chuck bowls that have a finished interior, so hold has never been a problem for me.
I hope this helps.
