Good Friday morn...........er.........aftern..........uh, evening everyone,

Boy, am I running behind or what? I couldn't get on the Creek this morning and then have had a very busy day. Had to prep materials this evening for a raised panel door class I am teaching tomorrow. Tomorrow evening and Sunday I plan to turn some more Freedom Pens and maybe clean the shop up. Seems everytime I reach for the broom lately, that little lathe draws me right to it before I can grab the broom! Go figure.

So what's going on with you this weekend?

Have a great weekend all,
Bob

I *really* need to get going on setting up the D4 jig and trying to get my mitts on some 3/4" mdf to setup the VacuPress. The shop really needs to see the business end of a broom and some organizational skills! Have a great weekend, all!

Grandsons first birthday party . I made the mistake of showing LOML the thread on the giant segmented bowl the other day so i have my orders to produce one of much smaller dimentions, now i just have to figure out all the angles to get it to work. Then the rest of the day will be used to cut and glue and clamp i guess.

Been on the road all week to SW VA (logged in 1000+ miles). I've got to finish hoods & gates for the DC system & get the TS router extension table shimmed. Hopefully by Sunday I can start making sawdust.

'Havin' a hangin' here at the shop...gonna put that "sucker" up...on the wall. Cyclone, that is. Fred and I "journeyed" (read: ROAD TRIP!!) to Syracuse NY today to visit with our friends at Oneida Air Systems. After a great tour (and pizza since it was Friday...) we filled up the truck with a nice new 2hp Commercial cyclone system to upgrade my shop. It was a long, 12 hr, 500 mile day in horrible freezing rainy weather, but a great time, nonetheless.

So, this weekend will entail installing the new machine and fitting up a bunch of ductwork enhancements. I'd like to get the changes to the shop done over the next few weeks so I can get to the list of projects backing up once the weather is a little more pleasant and I have a breather from a whole bunch of business travel.

And, of course, there will be the weekly movie night with LOML in front of the fire.

Below is a picture of everything loaded up for the ride home from Oneida. More pics of the "goings on" at the factory will get posted in a few days-you should find them interesting.

Plain lazy tonight other than shot the crap with my Bro. Tomorrow LOML and I are going to the Home Remodeling show for ideas. Need to really get sanding on the headboard and assemble the footboard to the Maple and Walnut Bed Frame. I want to get it really all ready for finish by Sunday night.

May run up Sunday to look at some wood with a buddy.

I just got back home from the local Woodcraft store. I,ve been gettin' the itch to try the spinny stuff for a couple of years. Signed up for a weekend long class about 3 months ago. First time I ever held a gouge or a skew chisel. BASIC spindles tonight, bowls, hollow vessels, green wood, sharpening this weekend. Boy, was that ever FUN!!!!!!! LOML saw the smile on my face when I gat home, and immediately approved an increase in the tool budget. Now I have to find a lathe, tools, wood, more sharpening stuff.....new tools are almost as much fun as turning.

More work on the study job. Tomorrow I'll start hanging the crown on the ceiling beams I'm started today. Cut some parts wrong so I had to stop so I could make some spacers. Ugg.

Also, working on a cherry vanity & linen cabinet. Boy, will these pieces be R.E.D. "RED"! They'll be gorgeous.

I am going to start on Cheryl's coffee table to match the EC in the morning!!!! I have made it a very simple design so hopefully it won't take 3 months to finish it.

Everyone have a good and safe weekend.

Howdy Bob.....

I will be working on the makings of 6 Adirhondak chairs. A buddy at work is coming over and 4 belong to him and 2 for me. Will be made out of Cypress....4/4 and 6/4 to be exact and will be a design of three different chair designs rolled into one. We are taking the best and strongest features of the three designs to come up with these chairs and the screws and bolts are all going to be Stainless Steel and the glue will be Gorilla Glue. I hope they will be strong enough to last..!!!!! :)

I'm going to make a "prototype" chair out of Florida Yew wood that I got from a buddy of mine several years ago....compliments of hurricane Hugo!!!!

Be Safe and Stay Warm.....

Bob - I am heading to the Houston Woodworking Show this morning. Have a couple hundred Freedom Pens Project flyers to hand out to the vendors and anyone else. Plan on making a day of it.

Take care...

Who knows where my mind will wander once I step through the door of the shop. Got a bowl blank mounted to the lathe. Got scroll patterns stacked and ready to cut. Got a small display unit half finished. A huge stack of tapes for the wood club to dub. 3 bowls that need final coat of finish applied. 2 bowls to buff. Hey its a crap shoot!

I will be working on more pens/pencils for 2 upcoming shows in March.

In addition I will be working on generating shipping labels for 47 shipments of kits both paid for and free kits in anticipation of 2000 sets of parts arriving some time next week. Also setting up an area in the house so I can sort, repackage and box up according to the orders received.

Whew !! - will have to commandere some volunteer help. :D

Ahem....I note, at least, TWO stealth gloats in the "Weekend Doin's" thread! This is NOT acceptable! You are *required* by SMC law (it's out there somewhere, honest) to initiate seperate threads WITH pics! You'd better watch it or Tyler will go over there and beat on you with one of the tools out of his living room! :D

PS: Congrats on the scores! :D

So, after a 10 hour drive to Phoenix, I spent Friday afternoon at the wood show here in town. Too many $$$ but it was mighty cool. When the shows are back in San Mateo, they are pretty big and full of people. here in Phoenix, I could park near the entrance and actually walk around without being bumped into.

SWMBO was right alongside me to moitor the spending....(SIGH)...

But anyways, will be driving home Sunday after looking at property on Saturday.

At the show, finally got my Jointech Sliding Miter for my table saw. That thing was awesome in the show. I have been pondering about getting one for a while. Along with buying a bunch of clamps and, on Kens advice, a caliper (digital) for my bushings for my pens.

Well, off to see the house.....

Stay safe and have a great weekend y'all......

As far as "weekend doings", I was able to build the drawer fronts, attach them, and add the knobs. Now I'm waiting on my daughter-in-law to pick the base color and the wood for the top. Have a great weekend!

Nice looking piece Chris - by the way, what are the dimensions of that? I like the panel look on the ends.

Hey Bob,

I told you that it was addictive....now do you believe me??? I've turned a couple of pens this weekend while I was supposed to be building boxes for my upcoming class...lol...and my wife snagged a couple of them. The others go in the collection box.

Hey Dude,

'Bout time you showed your face on here...................let me rephrase that...........'bout time you posted on here. :D

You were dead on about the addiction. Not only is that little lathe taking up all my time, it's starting to cost me alot of money. Pen drilling vise followed me home today. Been looking at chucks and a couple more turning tools.

Thanks for the comments. The base as you see it is 22 7/8"W x 43"L x 17 1/8"H. When I put a hardwood top on it, the top will overhang 1". I made the raised panels to protrued outward of their frames by 1/8". For some reason I like that a little better than flush on this particular piece. Hope this helps. Have a great night.

Tyler, Thanks for the comments! No, thats not a sanding table, it's my bench (such as it is). It's actually an old metal desk to which I added a bench top made of 2 x 6's half-lapped, a sheet of 3/4 ply and a sheet of 1/4 hardboard. I made some dawg holes for use with my vise. Not enought room (yet) for a nice bench. Have a great night.

Bob,

Be careful about using the inlace or similar blanks in the begining...they are a little harder to drill and not blow out the bottom...if you decide to take that plunge...just take it slow and easy, I've been drilling about an 8th at a time and clearing the bit. Only get a little chip out then and it's easy enough to deal with

Bob, Greg,

Not sure about the "inlace" blanks, but I've done quite a few Corian pens and found that Corian likes to blow out quite regularly. Throughout many attempts, I have found a few things which help a bit. First, I will typically tend to run the DP speed a bit higher than with normal wood blanks. Another thing I found helpful, is to actually run a course of masking tape on the exit end of the blank. Lastly, if I have enough material to do so, I try to leave it a bit long, even as much as a 1/4". I find that if/when it does blow out, it's right at the tail end and, if I've left enough material to compensate, I still have the full length necessary for the tube.
