Howdy,

OK, I'm going to start on Cheryl's coffee table to match the EC this weekend. I'm in kind of a point of indecision on the design. I am going to make it more like a blanket chest only shorter. More like 17" tall so it will serve to prop my feet on when I'm on the couch. :D

On the EC, the panels on the sides have the grain running vertically. The drawer front panel runs horizontally. I can't decide which way to run the grain on the coffee table. It wil be approx 26W X 41L X 17T.

Should I run it all vertical, horizontal or make the ends vertical and the front and the back horizontal?

Any input is appreciated.

Terry

Terry,

I would run the grain the lwnght of the top (the 41" direction) I work for a office furniture mfg and we build LARGE conference tables on a regular basis. The majority of them have the grain running the longest direction and look quite nice, once in a while a customer requests on with the grain running the narrow direction and it never looks right. Good luck with your prjoect and be sure to post pictures when it's done.

I would also vote for the grain to run sideways all the way around.

I built a similar "trunk" last year and we use it for the same purpose. And let me tell you... 17" is 2" too tall for propping the legs up on after a longs work. I've started another to replace it that will be only 15" tall.

Todd.

(While I say mine is a "similar" design, mine is solid pine and box-jointed at the corners. The lid is frame & panel though)

Here's what I am doing with a Coffee Table for my daughter-in-law. All grain is running horizontal. Hope you figure it out, I'm sure it will look great.

OK guy's, horizontal it is. I just could not make up my mind becasue of the vertical element in the ends of the EC.

Todd,

The current coffee table is 17" and LOML says that's the right height so you are out voted 1 to 1. :D

Terry

BTW...Chris P....lay off the coffee. :D heheheehehe

Terry,

BWAAHAHAHA!!! That's the way it usually is in MY house, too. :D

A little late to the party here, but I would also place my vote for the horizintal grain. I think it would look cleaner that way.

NO, wait Terry. I vote diagonal with points meeting in the center. Points up. For the top, a diamond pattern. :)

Keith,

I haven't been happily married for 20 years without learning a little something. :D When she says it's the right height, just say "yes dear".
