I wanted to practice at making a backsaw handle and need a new push stick so I said what the heck... I have the pattern if anyone is interested...I thought it would be pretty funny combining neander with power. The last photo is the LN hat that was signed by Tom Lie-Nielsen, Mario Rodriguez, Chris Schwarz and Adam Cherubini.

What a great idea!

Jim-

It is really comfy... When you push all the way through at the end you don't feel like your arm is twisted.

Neat idea. Judging by the response, maybe you should mail it to FWW and see if you win the LN spokeshaves...

correction: oops, didn't see your link - looks like this came from someone else.

I hesitate to say this, but I wonder if the handle is strong enough for use near a spinning tablesaw blade. The cross-section towards the top of the handle looks a little narrow and combined with the direction of the grain, I'd be worried about a split.

How strong are these things?

I made this to play around with the idea of making a Backsaw. If I was to make one in consideration of a tablesaw blade and its height I would make the bottom a bit larger. I will use mine in certain situations but will not risk my fingers because I think the push stick is cool!

Tom, you took the post right out of my mind, or something like that. I'd like to try one that keep my hand clear of the highest blade position. I need my safety deviced to keep me safe in my brain-free moments. I figure 3.5" from the bottom of the stick to the bottom of the saw handle.
