Hi Dave - I haven't seen one of the new revamped Supersaws upclose and personal yet, but I do know it's a 1-3/4hp hybrid that's toward the upper end of that price range. From looking at the online manual (http://www.wmhtoolgroup.com/Media.aspx?nav=Manuals), it looks like a decent saw and offers a nice fence, full enclosure, and solid wings, but does not offer the one piece cast blade shroud trunnion system that the new ProShop and Workshop hybrids do.

There are a few alternatives in this price range I am familiar with that I'd suggest looking into. If you have 220v available, the Grizzly 1023S (http://www.grizzly.com/products/G1023SL)L is in the same price range, but offers industrial grade trunnions and a full 3hp motor. The Shop Fox W1677 (http://www.woodstockint.com/Products/W1677/) is similar. Both are simply a more substantial saws than any hybrid.

If you don't have 220v, then a hybrid is an excellent alternative that should serve a hobbyist well. The Steel City (http://steelcitytoolworks.com/products_category.cfm?section=2&category=12) and Orion-made Craftsman 22124 (http://www1.epinions.com/content_184778395268) both offer similar features as the Jet, but both also offer cabinet mounted trunnions, which are easy to align, plus they add a fair amount of mass. Steel City has some rebate offers in play right now, and the Craftsman goes on sale into the $700 range occasionally.

I seem to recall some "Supersaws" having major issues with the belt & pulley systems that raise and lower the blade. Those Supersaws did not have a fully enclosed cabinet, however, so maybe they fixed the problem.
