This is my latest project just completed. These were made for my BIL who is the pastor of his church and was wanting to replace the alters ( I call them benches) which kept falling apart. These are 10'L x 18"W x 18"H, made of 8/4 red oak these things almost whipped me , man they're heavy!! I mortised the bench and rails into the end caps and the center leg is also mortised in, the inlay is walnut.

The ends really give it a stand out look, it is just not square.

It is really beautiful and I am sure the church will love them. As big as it is I am sure it is heavy.

Very nice. I really like that natural Alder look. You need to show them to some of the other churches in your area, you might well get orders to make quite a few more.

BTW, I believe those are called Pews. Altars are the raised areas typically at the front of the church assembly room.

Nicely done, David. What is the finish?

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.

John - on the finish I sprayed a sanding sealer then followed that with 3 sprayed on coats of Minwax Gloss Polyurethane.

Nice benches ~!!

Jointing the long boards must have been a chore.

The inlay is a nice touch. Well done.
