I have one of those hand held branding irons and really like it a lot. I think it adds a little something to an item when I sell it or give it to someone.

The little problem I was having was some time I would not get the iron exactly flat and I would have one side just a little darker then the other. Or I would rock it just a little and get kind of a double image. I didn't like that and you can't go back and redo it.

So I just took the rod out of the handle and now just it in the drill press, works really good. I just chuck it up and then heat it up and away I go. Everyone is just right and are the same from side to side, looks much better.

Don't turn the drill press on:D :D

Bill,

Good tip, thanks.

I heat mine on the stove, but I guess you need a propane torch for the drill press method?

Try a few practice runs using just black soot instead of heat.
