This is my 4th attempt at a bowl. I got a piece of choke cherry from one of the guys in my club and this is the result. I didn't have much patience with my other bowls and they all warped to some degree so I let this one dry much longer after soaking in DA before I turned it.

I know the pictures suck, will be asking santa for a photo tent.

6 3/4 " in diameter, 2 1/4 inches deep and 3/16 inches thick.

Very nice piece. this is the second choke cherry piece I have seen today. May have to track some down for myself. It's got some nice figure. Way to go on the beautiful piece.

Great looking bowl Doug. Choke Cherry looks to be some nice wood. I like the simple form and finish.

Beautiful bowl, Doug. The figure in that last picture reminds me of a Rorschach inkblot test. Hmmm, I see a new bandsaw in that image...

Beautiful Wood! Love the color.

This is the first time I have ever heard of Coke Cherry wood. Can someone explain what it is or where you can find it.

Thanks

Wayne

I don't know too much about it Wayne other than the seeds of the fruit and the leaves and bark are poisonous. It was free wood and had a nice figure. I had a thicker piece with even better color but I got a little aggressive with the gouge and it blew into several pieces.

Here is a link to a tree website:http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/trees/handbook/th-3-13.pdf

From what I've read it is common in the midwest but can be found all over the US.

Very nice!
There are some good plans on the net for building your own photo tent. Just Google "photo tent plans" or similar wording. There might be plans or forwards from here at the Creek.
