A few days ago I shared with you a little box with inlaid dovetails, at this thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?p=672450#post672450). The box will be going to a Silent Auction in 9 days.

Now, the original box has a sister, and will also be going to the same Silent Auction:

A little finish can do wonders to pop the grain. For example, the inlaid dovetail with the initial thin coat of Waterlox Original:

A little Waterlox Original on the sister box:

Both boxes are on the workbench, drying overnight. I hope to finish the boxes in two days, and will share with you the finished finish . :D

Enjoy!

They look great Al. One question, what method did you use to affix the bottoms of these boxes?

Thanks!!

Al, is there a tutorial anywhere on how to do the "inlaid " dovetails? Those are beautiful!

Thanks, Jared.

For the box with the inlaid tails I routed a rabbet in the base, and glued the box to the base. Long grain to long grain works GREAT!

Thanks, Randy.

I will post a short version of a tutorial right here.

I will have a full photo tutorial on my blog in the next week or two. In addition, several DT jig manufacturers have posted procedures using their jigs. I use the Leigh D4, for which you can find the procedure for inlaid DTs at their Customer Support (http://www.leighjigs.com/support.php) page.

Al, I will be watching for that tutorial, I really want to try it.

The boxes are beautiful as usual... And the dovetails are great.

Beautiful work Al. Someone will be very pleased to win one of those.
