Hi folks,

I have a Lancaster Pennsylvania trip planned for October 19-25. I was just wondering if there are some good woodworking places to visit while there. Anything within about 100 miles is OK.

Thanks in advance. :)

i'm not sure how far Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob are - if you like Frank Lloyd Wright they are not to be missed! They would probably be on your way from TN

Julie, Fallingwater isn't all that much out of the way on the route from TN up to York PA...adds a few hours, not including oogling FLW's design work. We did it driving up from Knoxville a few years ago after visiting Professor Dr. SWMBO's (now deceased) grandmother.

Roy, to the east is the Wharton Eshrick museum outside of Valley Forge, the Woodturning Center in Philadelphia and Nakashima Studios in New Hope. (The latter is only open to the public on Saturday afternoons or by appointment)

There are lots of cool stuff to see. On my short list;

http://www.winterthur.org/

The Phildelphia Museum of Art has a great furniture exhibit (Early American section)

www.hearnehardwoods.com (http://www.hearnehardwoods.com) is fairly close to where you will be and should not be missed if you are into seeing some very nice furtniture on the hoof if you will.

Groff and Groff are around also.

The Philadelphia Furniture Workshop (Alan Turner's place) is in Philly

There are tons of Amish places out in Lancaster.

There are also lots of flea markets, auction places, etc that you can check out if you are into scavanging old planes and stuff.

I am sure that others will add more.

If you get bored, you could always come over to my house and rake leaves - I am about 20 miles from there. :)

I agree with Larry on Winterthur. They have a variety of tours. Only problem is not pictures on most. Check out the web site. I have been twice in the last year and took different tours each time.

Go to the Grizzly store ... allow a little time to look around ... it is worth the trip! Edit: http://www.grizzly.com/showroom_pa.aspx

There's also a good railroad museum in Lancaster, if you're into
trains.
