My Dad had a thing like that and I never knew what it was, now I do.
I am still cleaning out the shop after his passing in Feb. so I will get it the next time I go there.

Your posts are always a pleasure to read and so clear and simple. Approximatley what length are the square checker legs? I assume it does not matter, just what is convenient to use.

You are correct, it doesn't matter, I made the "Diameter leg" 14" long

I saw that device in an old "Popular Mechanics Shopnotes" recently, but their explanation for how it worked was not as clear.
