Dennis' air compressor trials and tribulations came with good timing as I got an email this morning from Tractor Supply about their "new specials"...which included the IR 60 gallon compressor for $60 bucks more than that "red thing" at the 'Depot. 'Called them up and they had two available. So I had them hold one for me with the promise I'd be there either today or tomorrow, depending on my conference call schedule, etc. As it worked out, I was able to bolt up to Quakertown during a slightly longer "lunch hour" and grab my new compressor.

Thanks really go to Ken Robb for kindly purchasing my Jet 14" bandsaw earlier in the year...the bucks turned into this nice gloat. Thanks Ken! And thanks to Dennis for confirming in my mind to go with the nice ivory machine...that was a good sanity check.

Here's pics of unloading into the shop:

Jim,

Must be nice! Good looking tractor. Did you get any snow from the storm that just passed? Action news said another is on the way thursday night. The white ingresol color fit well with your old tool color scheme. What color are the new monsters you have now?

The MM stuff is white with cheesy blue stickers. The Stubby is grey/black. The IR is a little darker than the Jet stuff, but it's still a pleasant color. Of course, it will be in the new DC closet.

We had 8" from the last storm, but the rain yesterday knocked that down along with two days actually well above freezing. (Fell on my butt walking out to the truck today, however. The ice on the drive was tricky-slick in the shade) Thursday nite/Friday morning was freezing rain turning to rain when last I looked. I hope it stays to the rain side as Fred and I are taking that "road trip" up to Oneida in Syracuse on Friday to pick up my new cyclone so he can get my old one into his shop soon.

Hey Becker..!!!! That's not fair..!!!! I didn't get a Kabota to unload mine with.!!!!

LOML and I had to drag and carry mine off the trailer and then lug it 60 feet across the shop and into its rightful place. What a chore that was!

Glad to be of assistance in helping depleat your pocket of money.!!! :p

I am very sure you will be as satisfied with your new IR as I am mine. Reckon we orta start buying stock in IR? :D

I prefer to think of it as having the same amount of hair as I always have...it's just farther back on my head than it was when I was in high school back in the 70s. :D (Had a 'fro then... ) As the forehead marched, um...to greater prominence...I had to make up for it at the other end. But the PT is a great sales weapon...customers think I'm the techie-geek while all the time I'm taking millions of their money...for a good cause, of course.

A briefly little ditty on air compressors. Browse through the site but put a bib on or something...you'll drench your shirt/pants from drool.... :D

The stuff you've been buying makes that orange thing look like a regular yard tractor that mere mortals have. Now you can air launch full size planes off the USS Becker!

Hey everyone - The USS Becker, and associated fleet, are mighty fine tools.

But, I have him beat on the compressor... 5HP, two-stage, 80 gallon, auto-tank-drain, inter-cooler, after-cooler, low oil shut off. Like Tim the Toolman says, "Arg, arg-arg-arg"!

Ok, I look forward to seeing that monster on Tuesday night...but do tell us all about the auto-tank-drain, which I presume is a moisture drain. THAT would be nice to have!

And don't forget you do have that 20" Felder j/p and whacky DC on order with $$ committed, so technically you are the king in that deparment over all of us! :D

Yes, the auto-tank drain is nice. Every time the compressor cycles, the pressure "blowout" at the end of the cycle triggers a mechanically timed valve (adjustable) that opens. Connected to the valve is a flexible hose that sits inside the tank on the bottom. The pressure in the tank causes any accumulated water to be pushed into the hose and out the valve. I have a plastic line connected to the output side of the circuit and run outside to the atmosphere. No fuss, no muss.

Got this one year old, mint condition beauty two weeks ago from a fellow WW over at WoodWeb for a great price- < half cost of a new one. It is a PC 7 Hp, 175 psi, 80 gal monster with great specs. Was quite a chore unloading it from my van, but it fits nicely, though temporarily, in my shed awaiting its future home in my new retirement house.

Yup, I gave up trying to "keep up" with Jim a long time ago! Now we've got Chris & Todd pulling out the big guns, too! Oh well. It all makes sawdust and we have fun doing it, and that's what counts! Nice haul, Jim! I'm still debating whether I even need a big compressor, but if I do, it sure won't be one of the CH units!

Good going Jim. Those auto drains are really nice if you're like I am in not remembering to drain the tank near often enough. The only thing wrong with them is that about half the time when they open and let out that blast of air, it scares the stuffing out of me, and I'm not the jumpy type!

Jim,

Are you guys pulling a one day trip or overnighting up there. That is the area my wife's family is from. Have a safe trip. The weather will not get more pleasant as you go up there. If you are headed up 81 be real careful on the hills from just south of Hazelton till Scranton. Can be very icy and foggy and just down right misereable through there. Of course as I said it wont get much better the further you go North :D but at least they know how to clean the roads better up there.

Yes, it's a one-day road trip. The weather looks like it's going to be unpleasant, but having grown up in NE PA (Honesdale) that's not new for me. Additionally, I completely blew out a tire on the Tundra today pulling into our headquarters in Basking Ridge NJ and ended up with four new ones on the way home. (They were due for replacement in a few months, anyway) Lot's of nice agressive rubber with only 20 miles on it for the trip and a full tank of $1.49 New Jersey gasoline should make for a fine start, despite Mother Nature being a pain in the tukus. I can only pray for a Starbucks before we get too far...
