Fumes triggering carbon monoxide detector

I just started finishing a fairly large entertainment center in my media room this afternoon. Within about 15 minutes of starting, the carbon monoxide detector outside the room began sounding, so I removed it. About 45 minutes later, the detector downstairs and around the corner began sounding.

The stain is an oil-based wipe on gel stain. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? I can't imagine this is a coincidence. Any yes, I did try changing the batteries.
