Looks like divine inspiration. Kinda like Noah... but with a bridge.;)

Really, job well done. Making things without plans is challenging but is very rewarding. Is it staying there or does it have a creek to carry you over?

Looks great. Did you start out with one part, like say the convex base and then measure and ad the other pieces or were you able to think the whole thing up in your head and then build without having to make changes,

It's 10'L, 3'W and the deck is 12" at the center. Don B.

Don, That looks great! But I have to say, POOR planning. It's going to be one hell of a shovel job to put water under it. lol Looks real good.

first I figured out how many 1x6 boards would fit in 10' with 1/4" spacing. the arch was made to fit a 2x12. I started with a piece of 1/4" paneling ripped 3"W 8'L, drilled a hole in one end for a pencil and nailed it to my driveway but it was too short, added another strip of paneling and kept driving the nail in 12" increments and the arch was perfect 13' from the pencil line, than moved the strip down 8" for the bottom arch. Are you saying the arch pieces were cut out of a 2x12? Just want to make sure because it looked taller.

Yes Keith, but not a nominal 2x12, the spans are cut from a full 2" x 12" piece of Hemlock, actually there are three spans because the deck is Cedar and it flexed too much in the center. the posts are 3x3 Cedar. Don B.

The next time you want to lay out an arch, this is the easy way. A couple of nails at the ends will work for the guides for the jig.
