bed set make over

I have a 1948 mahogany tin bed set that I wanted to refinish and update with new pulls and better profiles (the set looks very plain) on the tops and drawers. Part of what I want to do involves turning the twins into one queen size bed by cutting one post off each head/foot board and re joining them at the proper width. Does anyone have any advice? I was originally going to use dove tails to join the two pieces together for stregth but am worried how it will look.

Thats a good point. I guess its hard to vissualize what I'm saying. I'm new to the computer world as it is used for anything other than trading stocks. I haven't had a digital camera for very long and do not know how to get the pics on the comp. yet but I will work on it soon.
