I am looking for a chisel that I can use for general purpose and for hand cut through dovetails. I am not sure what size or style to get. Where do you buy good chisels from? I have heard about thebestthings.com. What about buying used older chisels?

Thanks for your help,
Rick

You can certainly buy used, but you should know what you're looking for first.

For new, there are lot's of places to go but I would try the following places as they have good stuff, at fair prices, and the owners will be able to help you select chisels that will fit your needs;

www.japanessetools.com - talk to Harelson Stanley (877-692-3624)
or
www.toolsforworkingwood.com - talk to Joel (800-426-4613)
