It's cheap, it looks and feels nice and it works great with the ball-less laser meeces that pretty well everybody has these days. And there's enough texture for the mouse to move smoothly without 'jumping' like it does on magazines and suchlike.

The only downside I can see is that it would get grubby quite quickly, so some sort of soft-feeling varnish/protectant would be in order.

I made this, and the cork was pretty accurate. No jumping at all:

I didn't post a picture of the cork mousemat- it was undecorated and a square of cork -even with attractively rounded corners- isn't interesting enough to bother posting.

All I get is an elephant in Spiderman gear!

Yup. Lot more interesting than a square of bathroom cork. And I made the image using the cork as a mousemat...which I couldn't have done if the mouse pointer was jumping all over the place like it does using a magazine, as a mousemat for example.

Probably a bit obscure, now that I come to think of it, but there's not enough elephants on SMC. Just pointing out that cork makes rather good (and cheap) mousemat material just in case anybody didn't know and can do something useful with the fact. And cork doesn't mark your desk up. The elephant is either gratuitous, a waste of bandwidth or a bonus, depending on your point of view.

Can't have too many elephants, in my view.

Is there a shortage of elephants dressed like Spidey in Spain, Mike? You can have the one in my town. We overpaid and can't unload him... Even the zoos don't want them anymore. We're thinking of donating him to charity.

Talk to your town council and see what they think. He's a 2003 model, low miles but not potty trained, but he comes with 7 nearly new spidey costumes and a teeter-totter.

We keep spraying and putting elephant paper down, but they keep coming back.

That's true. They are very nervous creatures.
