Name That WOOD ........

A good friend was a 'traveling' salesman for a local electrical supply. One of his weekly stops was a cabinet shop about 4-5 towns west of here. They had a huge dumpster and told him to help himself to anything in the dumpster. He used to bring me all sorts of stuff, unbelievable what they throw away. Anyway, I got this mystery board. Harder than any hard maple I've ever used, and very dense.

What is IT? I'm guessing rosewood or maybe cocobolo, thats the closest two matches in my Good Wood book. What say ye fellow creeker's?

BTW, Joe got promoted to an in-store position, was a good advancement that he needed with 2 young un's in the house. But, NO MORE WOOD. Drats!

I'm going to guess brazillian cherry (jatoba). Is it REALLY heavy?

Looks like Jatoba to me to Dave. It is definitely not a Rosewood. Not enough dark grain in this board. The color looks like Brazilain Cherry as does the luster.
Hard and heavy stuff, but it is quite pretty IMO.

Looks like Jotaba to me as well. I just made a couple of chairs out of it. It's VERY heavy and dense, but quite nice looking. Nice score, BTW.
