Here is how I spend my day off today. I have a friend who asked me to put some finish on a wood dashboard someone made for him for the MG that he is restoring. Long story short; When he showed up with the piece I was supposed to work on I decided to make a new one, it was made out of 1/8" cheap ply and it was awefully done and very unattractive grain, my 3 yr old would have done a better job with a plastic knife on the cutting dept. So here is the new one made with solid wood "Curupay" sliced in half and glued. It is 3/16" thick. The finish is not done all the way jet but this is what it looks like by now.
It was a fun project I must say.
Thanks for looking
Alex

Great looking job, looks a lot better then the one I made for my Spitfire 40 yours ago.

Now just think about a fly cutter and a hand drill, some 1/8 plywood...
I think you can see in your mind what it looked like..:D

Thanks for the comments, once he instal the dash I'll post pics to show the results

Very nice.

What's the finish?

I used water based aniline, then 1 coat of dewaxed shellac, 1 of BLO, 1 of Shellac again and a lot of coats of wipe on poly.

Very nice!

It would look great with a piano finish.

Looks NICE!! What year model MG? My Dad started rebuilding a 1957 MGA when I was about 12 or 13. I wanted it as my first car. My brother had his eyes on my Dads 69 Firebird. Neither one of us got them! Traded the Firebird in on a pickup, and sold the MGA to a neighbor.:( (Who blew a head gasket and kept on driving it until he killed the engine totally.:mad::mad:) Jim.

It is a 71' who knows if it's the same as a 69'. But in any event who cares now since he sold it

I might have him trace a pattern since I forgot before he left. Who knows if some friend of him want's one I could get a commision there and I have the template for it.

Again thanks for the comments
