I think most of you know I am a Neanderthal, and I have no objection to using tailed tools when its necessary. But I need to do a bunch of sliding dovetails on the ends of long boards. So I came up with this plane.

1. I inherited the B&D Router from my Father in law. and its light.

2. Make a new base plate from 1/4 inch lexan scrap.

3. Make plane Body, so its adjustable on the New Base Plate.

4. Add a Simple Fine Adjustment Device.

5. Try it. I have to put some danish oil on the wood parts yet.

The end of the board its setting on in the first picture is the trial run

Harry that's a real neat idea. A new way to skin an "older" cat.

Harry, that's absolutely wonderfully clever. And I bet it really cuts a lot of time off things when you have a lot of the sliding dovetails to create. A great way to recycle an older router, too...not that the ol' B&D in that color is going to get lost easily in the clutter...LOL (I have a matching circular saw in B&D orange)

I like it. What did you use to fettle the sole?

Gary this ain't a cooking school, oh wait a minute, I thought your said "kettle" the sole:rolleyes::p

It's still a real neat idea.

Harry,
You are too clever. I love it and I especially love that big ole knot on the edge of the sole. It has a Krenov quality about it :-)

That is really neat.

I can see that it will really be a big help in cutting the dovetail and it will be fast to and no falling of the side.

Great job and I have this one bookmarked.

harry, that's hysterical! i'll bet it cuts beautifully although you still need to wear the ear protection. i think we should start a new sub-forum: NEO-neanderthal.

The depth adjustment eccentric is too clever. Not true neanderthal but better classified as Flintstone era.

Harry,

Thanks for doing my R&D for me! I'm building an entertainment center soon that will have 19" sliding dovetails on 6' long workpieces. I don't have 6' above my router table so thanks again for designing my solution for me ahead of time! :D

Wow, Harry! That's a great idea. I've been wanting to do some sliding dovetails, but thought I'd have to build a horizontal router table. You've solved that issue for me!

Thanks!

I thought is was fillet of sole

Oh, and I vote for calling this sub-culture "Flintstones" too.

Harry,

Very nice execution I like the adjustment cam (I would have overwhelmed myself with threaded rod adjusters and pitched the whole thing for being too complicated!)

Hmmmm... wide flat chamfers, longer than 9 1/2 inches... it's obviously an 18th century plane. Is there a maker's mark on the bit? :)

Very creative and cool. Looks like one of those "fake" Lee Valley tool ads that come out in April each year.
