Yup, that and some In-Line Rollerblade wheels and your all set. ;)

I misread the post. I thought you meant tool rest. I bought my steady rest from Oneway but there are many plans on this site for ones out of wood and metal.

Paul,

Keith Clark at the Spin Doctor makes both steady rests and hollowing rigs.

Chris; if you don't mind, what are the specs. on the steady rest and how much did it cost you? How much does it weigh?
Thanks

Paul,

You can build one like this one (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=35392) for very little money. In fact, the steel for this type steady can be gotten at your local metal scrap yard. The wheels and wheel bearings cost more than the stell for it did. ;)

well the inside diameter is roughly 23" the wheels were off of a garage sale set of rollerblades total size between wheels is 16.5 (my lathe is only a 16" )

all of the steel is 1/4" with the exception the base which is 1/2"

it was a government job (i.e. some friends where i work were looking for a challenge )

total weight is 48 lbs

my total cost was ( i really hate to say this )

lets see
$10 for 2 cans of spray paint

$3 for the used roller blades

yea that would be about it

(goes to run away after saying what money i have in it )

Nope...I was just checking out how the steady worked. That was it's maiden voyage after I got it all setup. :)
