I had made one of these desk clocks about 2 years ago in Red Oak. A family member expressed an interest in having one, so I set about making a new one using some Quilted Maple that I had. It's an original design - pretty simple, though.
I used a router with a circle jig to do the circles. The center piece with the clock movement swivels 360 degrees on 1/4" wooden dowels. The base has a simple 1/8" rabbet along the top edge. I finished it with 1 coat of pure tung oil, and 3 coats of Waterlox Original.
Dimensions are 7¾" x 7½" x 7½.

I like it so much I am going to put it on my todo list. Could you elaborate of the clock movement. Did you buy it as a clock or is the bezel separate?

Hi Don,
The clock movement is all 1 piece. It has a rotating dial which lets you see what time it is in other parts of the world. I bought it at Klockit (http://www.klockit.com/products/dept-74__sku-15046.html).

Now that is nice. Thanks for the link to the clock kit. After seeing that I am going to be hard pressed to find a piece of wood to do it justice. It's on my to do list.

Wow, John...what a perfect piece of maple for that kind of project! It takes a great design and elevates it "way up there"!

John, what a unique clock, And your own design. Beautiful yet very functional. You have inspired me to try a clock.
Do you get to the battery from the back or do have to remove the insert
