A customer is asking if the cherry jewerly box he is making and wants engraved should be finished or unfinished for engraving - any advice please. Thanks, Pete

Finished protects the wood from smoke damage.

Finishing first seems to be the best. If you plan to color or blacken the engraving you should seal it with something like zinzer seal coat. It prevents bleading into the wood .
