My wife and I have just returned from a great weekend to celebrate our 33rd anniversary, at Lake Quinault in the rainforest. Saturday while we did most of our site seeing and hiking there was actually no rain, and had a nice view of the lake from our room at the lodge.
On the way back we went north along the ocean on 101, and while looking for a way to get to the beach stumble upon what is called the Spruce Burl Trail.
There were literally hundreds of trees with burls like I've never seen before. Later we stopped at the ranger station and where I was told that these burls while huge are not beautifully figured as some other woods. I don't know if that's true or he just wants to discourage theft.
