Like everything else, it seems, this one has a story too:
I had turned and hollowed this one with the other end up because I thought it would be more stable, safer (and easier) to hollow... It looked nice, but the "bottom" had more eyes and stuff, so I plugged up the hollowing hole with a spalted maple tenon and started working on the new "top." It's a little on the heavy side, but the bark made it pretty scary, so I let myself be satisfied with a win.

Diameter: 8 7/8 inches
Height: 4 1/2 inches
Finish: Oil sanded to 600 - water based poly

George,

This is a beautiful piece. I think the extra thickness gives a good feeling of depth and texture to the bark inclusion. I think it looks great!

Wow, that's really a beauty. I really like some of the unusual forms you come up with. And that's really some nice wood. You definitely get all the points on this one.

And after further review, you get all the points on the others too.;)

Beautiful piece George.

Most of the time they work the way you plan, but sometimes the more you turn the better the other side looks. Plans are always subject to change.

The maple foot looks just like you planned it from the beginning.

I'd say there's a HUGE difference between the top and bottom figure. Good you could turn it around. Nice piece George.
