This is an area I have not tried nor read a lot about. What are options for creating decorative drawer fronts? I am especially interested in approaches you all have taken if you make the drawer front from a plywood.

I can envision edge banding a piece of ply with a molded strip. But beyond that or a solid wood door front, what other approaches are there? Surely no one tries to create a "raised panel" from a piece of plywood. Surely?

My current objective is approaches to "simple" drawer fronts (no kitchen cabinet arched or cathedral fronts).

A related question has to do with having lots of birch plywood and noting that sources of solid birch (in my area) are not numerous. What other "common" hardwood or softwood species blends well as edging for birth plywood?

Thanks.

Banding is one option. Also, a small applied moulding, held in from the edges of the DF a bit to create a smaller raised rectangle can add a lot of "texture".
