Another one bites the dust

Our son Kyle came to town yesterday for a brief stopover, and decided that he wants to turn. He grabbed a piece of the cherry that I got from John Hart earlier this year and has turned a small bowl on my mini. Here's the result:

Sorry about the not-so-great pictures--he's at the house and snapped these off while ago and sent them to me on e-mail. I'll take some better ones tonight. It's going to be a pretty little bowl when it's finished.

He just called me to tell me that he now wants a mini for birthday/Christmas. I don't know where he's gonna use it in the semi-truck:confused: , but he wants one.:D :D

As promised, here's pictures of the finished cherry bowl. It has a few cracks in it that couldn't be turned out or sanded out, so it's not perfect, but it's his first one. Cherry, 6-1/2" diameter, 2-1/2" high, walls are 1/4" thick, bottom is about 1" thick (he was a little leery of trying to go thinner for his first piece.

This little beauty is 7-7/8" in diameter, 1-7/8" high, and walls are about 3/8". No, Chris, this isn't oak--it's sassafras. Aside from a little bit of tearout, it's pert' near perfect, to my very untrained eye.

Now he's really chomping at the bit for a mini!!

I appreciate everyone's kind comments. I, personally, don't think that it stacks up to the work I've seen everyone else do.

As for a lathe in truck, I don't think the leasing company would like it if I modified the truck that much. :D My "want" of a Midi Lathe is to see if I can get my wife sucked into "The Vortex."
